TextSnippets
I had written earlier that I thought Peter Cooper’s Snippets was one cool cool app.
Then I saw in the good ‘ole RSS reader (NetNewsWire) that it was available for download and I had to install a copy here.
Peter’s other application RSS Digest is a good one as well. It’s interesting to see how many of these RSS things are showing up, I can at least recall that ichigo’s (Thomas Schranz) feedication launched recently here at textdrive.
But hey! Back to Snippets (which for some reason doesn’t have a donate button or anything?).
So … now there’s TextSnippets and I think it would be great (especially considering the huge brain trust we got going on here), fantastic, wonderful, HUGE for you to get in there and start dumping each and every little snippet you have (yes, you, don’t go installing some local geek copy of it and keeping ‘em hidden, paste ‘em up, get ‘em out, share, share, share). I love reading through Snippets.
Fame, fortune, respect and perhaps prizes … awaits those who float to the top (like cream or s#!t depending on one’s view of world).
Go, go, go, paste, paste, paste

and a great Idea too
This can be a good timesaver,
and it takes allmost no time
to share it here.(I just used your mod_deflate script,I have another
one that filters for browsers that can not handle mod_deflate,but I
still don’t know how good it is,
as soon as I know,it’ll be there)
thanks, and bst regrds, marios

It’s a one line fix for a small Snippets bug which means user specific pages won’t have the posts in the right order. A minor bug, but still.. :)
One thing I couldn’t fathom, however.. is TextSnippets primarily for TextDrive related stuff? I couldn’t quite tell, as I’m not a TD customer, but most of it seems web hosting centric.
— Peter Cooper 27 May 2005, 00:26 #
It’s web hosting centric because it’s mainly me slapping stuff in there, and I’m … web hosting centric.
There’s a few thousand people here, and most program, and there’s alot of snippets in our forum about a lot of stuff.
I mean ALOT.
So I’d like them done like this post
And having a “snippets ring” here will hopefully compel them to use it while also increasing the general awareness of application.

I really dig code snippet sites, I’m always finding stuff that saves me a ton of time.
Thanks for setting this up, digging through the forums for config files, code, etc. is a big pain. This will make my life easier.

This may mean that a search feature for Snippets would come in immediately useful for a site like yours. It’s pretty easy to implement, I just need to find some time to spend on it. Perhaps late next week :)
Regarding donations (as mentioned in your main post), I am not actively seeking them, nor did I realize anyone would want to donate (whereas on RSS Digest, it is quite common, due to the resources used), but if anyone does want to donate, paypal AT bigbold.com is the address. I may set up an ‘about’ page with this information at some stage, however.. particularly as I should really link to the code and mention its application somewhere rather than my blog!
I’m looking forward to seeing how you guys go with Snippets as this is an application I had not previously considered (using it as a knowledge base for a specific niche) and it may be able to turn into a future area of business for me (in a previous life I was a technical writer).

I see you liked my first addition, I hope I’ll be able to add some more in the future… Interesting stuff there. :)
