McBook

Would you like some fries with your McBook maam?

I don’t like the name

I like power.

Don’t think putting “pro” on the end helps.

  1. Ditto. Makes it sound like a bad Intuit product. QuickBooks “Pro”.

They should have stuck with the power prefix, even without a PowerPC inside, IMHO.

Nevertheless, I’ll probably buy one in 3 or 4 months after the first wave have “baked in”. :)

  2. DON’T SAY THAT WORD. Call it “The Scottish Computer”.

  3. Sad thing is, they got rid of Firewire 800! I also don’t like the idea of not having a choice for the screen-size. :( I have a 15’ right now, and I’d love to get a 12’ for my next one.

  4. I’m waiting for the iBook (which I guess will be MacBook now, huh?) I’m bothered by the name but I can live with it—when I worked at an Apple Store the two most annoying questions were:
    – What’s the difference between the iBook and PowerBook? – Wait, so the PowerBook is a Mac?

(Seriously, a lot of non-nerd computer buyers DO NOT KNOW that the PowerBook is not a Wintel laptop.) So I can understand the desire to scream to the heavens that, yes, it’s a Mac and it’s spectacular. (Except for the mysterious battery life.)

  5. I want one. I couldn’t care less what it’s called. In my house, it will be referred to as ‘het Macje’ (‘the little Mac’) anyway.

  6. Yeah, the name sucks. I like the machine, except for no FW800, but not the price range I’m buying right now. Would have considered an Intel iBook (or should I say IBook), and WHERE’S MY INTEL MAC MINI? Sorry, had to get that out there. Hopefully it just means the Media Center/DVR thing might actually be true and needs more time/etc. to work on.

  7. I’m waiting for 17”, Dual Layer DVD Burning and 64Bit.

  8. Agreed – bad name. Should have been PowerBook something.

  9. I like it. MacBook, MacBook Pro…presumably the PowerMac will now become the Mac Pro. Fits in with their Pro line of apps.

In a month, you’ll be used to it. I though the “iPod nano” was weird-sounding at first too.
