A postcard from where we're at
It might be imagined that the restaurants of La Jolla were trucked out en masse from some factory in the midwest, each one the product of a tick-boxed purchase order: ‘Mexican, extra neon’, say, or ‘hawaiian shirts, pieces of flair, deep fried cheese’.
Er, the TextDrive core staff (with the exception of Damelon, undergoing the stomach flu thing) and quite a few of our rubified friends are all in San Diego this weekend. For most, it’s the first time we’ll be meeting each other in person after months and months of tcp/ip-only communication. It’s quite exciting for us.
Though the shop talk might be a little shall-we-say focused for everyone’s liking, we’re getting a ton of good work done: rethinking current systems, planning where TextDrive is headed in the future, drinking all of Jason’s booze. Lots of very suave stuff coming together, which you can expect to hear about starting next week.
Having experienced it firsthand last night, I can attest that the 4am datacenter visit, followed by deep fried tacos that spray molten lard onto your shirt, lives up to all known hype.
Already there are photos, and there will be a meetup on Sunday night (location still TBA, see first graf) for anyone in the region who wants to come down and associate faces with names and perhaps see Nate smoke a cigarette right down to the filter in one drag.
