My god, I don’t think I’m ever going to bad mouth Apple within earshot of John.

And I can say one thing for sure, his latest is just another example of why his is some of the best writing you’ll find on the interweb.

But what I still don’t understand (and perhaps Gruber does) is how the hell Apple hasn’t scobleized the big J.G.

Sure, sure he’s not a “blogger” but you get my point.

  1. Look at the folks in charge of Microsoft today: marketeers. Apple is different. They let the products do the talking.

  2. Zeldman asked the same question.

And speaking of, it makes me giggle to think there’s a crackhead somewhere in San Francisco rocking #4a525a. I only wish said crackhead hadn’t stolen said shirt from my pickup truck.

  3. Funny, I thought John’s piece was an unnecessarily shrill bit of delusional corporate apologia. Not that the piece he was responding to was any better. I agree that John is a great writer, but this piece is not indicative.

  4. How can we be sure John wasn’t scobelized by Apple, and is working now, covertly, on swaying public opinion?

    I’m just saying.

  5. John wrote an equally strong piece about the discovery ruling in the Apple v. Does case, also in contrast to some rather excessively alarmist spiel from Doctorow.

*I* wouldn’t want to cross him.

  6. Hmm … you might be right Dan. It would definitely explain the new place in nantucket.

  7. I think keeping John away from the official Apple site is the best thing they can do. Increasingly people seem to be ignoring Scoble altogether simply because, no matter how often he says his blog is his own affair, everyone knows where is monthly paycheck is coming from.

The fact that John’s excellent writing is (so far) independent from the product(s) only makes it more effective.

  8. I think that’s right David

  9. David: well, you’d miss when I say nice things about Apple or Google then. Which is often.

  10. And let the record show, I only meant “that’s right” about John staying an indie.
